KOREAN WAR US 4th ARMY IKE JACKET UNIFORM
This is a US Army Ike jacket. Wool construction. Two pockets with flaps
that are secured shut by using snaps.
This sample has the 4th Army clover patch and rank stripes. The front is
not buttoned the usual way. A zipper has been used instead. This
characteristic was introduced after WWII.
The 4th Infantry Division was designed an approved in 1918. Based out of Fort
Benning Georgia. Part of the Division's regiment saw alot of action during
D-day in WWII. Among the first wave of landings, they were instrumental in
breaking through German defenses to reach elements of the 82nd Airborne at Ste.
Mere Eglise.
The uniform retains the tag in the pocket. it shows a date of 1951. The tag
was placed in all uniforms. However, over time, it is lost or washed out to the
point where it is no longer legible.
The tag contains alot of valuable information for a collector. Some of the things
identified there include the year of manufacturing, the material, color,
manufacturer's name, etc.
