KOREAN WAR US ARMY M-43 FIELD JACKET
This is a US Army M-43 field jacket. Used during the Korean war conflict. Four pocket construction.
with a draw string in the waist area. The pockets are held shut via the use of flaps, which are
secured using small, brown plastic buttons.
This jacket is the predecessor of the M-1951 model. The design is very similar to the jacekts used
during WWII. The value of the jacket is less than that seen in WWII samples. It is difficult to
determine the reasons why. It may be that the Korean war is not as well known as WWII.
The shoulder portion of the jacket has an epilet. One end is secured by a button. The inside of the
jacket is atamped with black ink. This was a trademark of the jackets manufactured during this time
period.
The stamp contains valuable information for a collector, such as the date of manufacture, the
material used, the color, manufacturer's name, instructions for use and more.
The problem with this method of marking garments is that the ink fades away with washes and
exposure to the elements. This can make it very hard to read.
