THE HISTORY OF THE US MILITARY UNIFORMS
The United States armed forces employed different types of uniforms throughout its history. Some of them were very colorful, like those used during
the birth of the country. As warfare methods change, the uniforms had to evolve to better suit the needs of the time.
The material of the uniforms has changed from heavy wool to the lighter, easier to breath materials of today. Some of the newest uniforms even
provide infrared protection. and are more chemically resistant. Which is quite the contrast from the uniforms of WWI where getting wet meant
adding extra pounds to the uniform.
This section of our website is dedicated to the study of the US combat uniforms covering the periods of WWI, WWII, Korean war, Vietnam war to the present.
The characteristics of each period are examined. Whenever possible, a comparison between the different eras is made.
