US AIR FORCE ACHIEVEMENT MEDAL -
This medal was designed by Robert Bonn in an effort to break away from the tradition of copying designs from the Army.
In October 20th 1980 this medal was adopted by the Air Force. Personnel who qualified for this award included anybody with the rank
of a major or below.
The award was developed to recognize achievements by personnel. This was the
first medal established for Air Force personnel by the Air Force authority. Some
junior personnel have been issued this award upon completion of their tour of
duty.
The ribbon could be outfitted with the letter "V" as an indication that the
person received the medal for conducting operations in hostile territory, combat
situations or in response to acts of terrorism.
