US NAVY GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL -
This is a US Navy Good Conduct medal. Instituted in 1884. It was awarded
to enlisted personnel in the Navy and Active Reserve. Criteria for the
award included above average behavior, military appearance, leadership, and
good conduct.
In order to qualify for the award, the soldier could Not have any court martials
or nonjudical actions for the period of three years. There was a time between
the years of 1963 and 1996 where the requirement was 4 years.
The medal featured here is dated 1946. It was issued right after WWII.
The name of the recipient has been engraved on the back of the medal. The year
was also recorded. The suspension system is typical of WWII production. With
one stich applied to the lower side of the bar. Of pin-back construction.
