US NAVY AND MARINE CORPS ACHIEVEMENT MEDAL WITH CERTIFICATE -
The US Navy and the Marine Corps employed the same Achievement medal to reward
individuals who substained above average performance in combat and non-combat
situations. The qualities recognized were professional and leadership
achievement. To be recognized for the professional achievement the person must
clearly exceed expectations and must be an important contribution that benefits
the Naval Service. To be recognized for the leadership achievement the soldier
must perform a noteworthy act while performing a mission.
The award was institutes in 1961. But this was only as a ribbon. The medal
itself became into existance on 1967.
