US COAST GUARD GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL -
This is a US Coast Guard good conduct medal. Instituted in 1923. It was awarded
for outstanding proficiency, leadership and conduct during 3 years of enlisted
service. The initial requirement in 1923 called for 4 years of service. The
standard was reduced in 1934.
The medal consisted of the Coast Guard shield with the words "Semper Paratus"
(Always Prepared) written above. Two crossed rows rest at the bottom. The back
reads "Fidelity, Zeal, Obidience". The name of the recipient could be inscribed
in the back.
