The US Homefront Of The Vietnam War - All wars produce a wide variety of homefront items. The Vietnam war was no different. However, the divisive nature of the conflict generated a larger amount of anti-war memorabilia than usual. Some of the products developed were very much in line with those created in previous wars.

US MILITARY HEADGEAR OF THE VIETNAM WAR

The headgear employed by the US armed forces during the Vietnam war consisted of the venerable M-1 helmet, a new series of aircraft and helicopter helmets, hats and caps. Some of the interesting additions to the group consisted of theater made hats commissioned by the special forces.



US ARMY M-1 HELMET WITH CAMO COVER - This is the iconic M-1 helmet. As used by American armed forces during the Vietnam war. Complete with an ERDL camo cover.


US AIR FORCE JET PILOT OXYGEN MASK - This is the oxygen mask exployed in the F-104 fighter aircraft. Of Olive drab rubber construction. Single rubber hose connects to oxygen supply.


VIETNAM WAR US ARMY APH-5 JET HELMET - The APH5 was the Army's standard aviation headgear at the start of war. It featured integral headphones, a boom type microphone and a retractable tinted anti glare visor.

VIETNAM WAR US ARMY GENTEX APH-5 FLIGHT HELMET - The Gentex helmet is dated 1968. Used by helicopter pilots during the Vietnam war.


VIETNAM WAR US AIR FORCE MB3 FLIGHT HELMET - The Gentex helmet is dated 1968. Of leather construction. This helmet saw limited use during the Vietnam war.


VIETNAM WAR US ARMY PARATROOPER M-1 HELMET - This is the standard paratrooper helmet. M-1 type with the ERDL pattern camouflage cover.


1976 US ARMY M-1 HELMET - This is the standard M1 helmet. Issued one year after the end of the Vietnam war (1976).




1976 US ARMY M-1 COLONEL'S HELMET - This is the standard M1 helmet. The shell has been painted with a colonel's insignia in gold.








US MILITARY DRESS HATS OF THE VIETNAM WAR



US NAVY FEMALE DRESS HAT - Of cotton construction. Black visor with a white top. Silver USN eagle is placed in the front. The hat retains the original tag.


1950'S US NAVY OFFICER DRESS HAT - mid to late 1950's US navy officer's hat. Of cotton construction. With a black visor and mid-body. White top with gold colored metal anchor and USN letters across the middle.


VIETNAM WAR US ARMY OFFICER DRESS HAT - Of Olive Drab cotton construction. High peak hat with a gold colored eagle in front. Black leather visor with golden scrambled eggs applied to the top.


VIETNAM WAR USMC DRESS HAT - The main body is white in color with a black visor and chin strap. A black EGA (Eagle Globe and Anchor) insignia is located in the center.




VIETNAM WAR US MIXED DRESS HAT - US Army Light green cotton blend body with a black leather visor and chin strap. US Air Force Silver colored metal eagle. plastic lined crown.


VIETNAM WAR US AIR FORCE OFFICER DRESS HAT - Of wool construction. Silver cut-out US eagle in front. Black leather chin strap and visor with "scrambled eggs" of silver color on top.


VIETNAM WAR US ARMY ENLISTED MAN HAT - Olive drab cotton construction with a black leather visor and chin strap. Golden colored eagle found inside a metal circle.


VIETNAM WAR US CIVIL AIR PATROL HAT - Light blue Civil Air Patrol (CAP) with a silver eagle in the center. Black leather chin strap and visor with silver embroidered clouds and lightning bolts.

VIETNAM WAR SPECIAL FORCES CAMO HAT - This is a theter made camouflaged boonie hat, Of cotton construction with aluminum ventilation gromets. A red patch with "Viet-Nam" written in white letters.


VIETNAM WAR DUCK HUNTER CAMO HAT - This is a bush hat with the US Duck hunter pattern. One side of the visor has a snap that secures to the main body.


1950's US AIR FORCE WINTER FIELD CAP - Manufactured of a silk-like material. Gray in color. Insulated cap with ear and neck flap. Inside liner has satin like construction. Used in the early days of the war.


VIETNAM WAR US ARMY MOSQUITO NETTING - Bugs and mosquitos had a strong presence in Vietnam. The mosquito net shown here could be worn with the M-1 helmet or other type of headgear. Of nylon construction.




VIETNAM WAR US ARMY FEMALE HAT - This is a very interesting hat design. Cotton blend construction with three ventilation holes arranged in the shape of a pyramid. Complete with chin strap.


US ARMY DRILL SEARGENT HAT - This is the felt construction hat with a golden army eagle attached to the center of a circle. Mid brown nylon band attached at base.


1964 US ARMY RANGER FIELD CAP - Of cotton construction. The visor has a series of concentric semi-circles as a way to strngthen the structure. Ranger tab and master parachutist patch applied to front.


VIETNAM WAR US ARMY TANKER GAS MASK - Black rubber body. Large clear plastic lense allows for uninterrupted viewing. Single hose comes out from front and connects to filter inside bag.




VIETNAM WAR US M17A1 GAS MASK - This is the standard gas mask for the US armed forces during the Vietnam war. Black rubber construction with individual eye lenses. Built in filter.


VIETNAM WAR US ARMY SPECIAL FORCES GREEN BERET - This is the famous green beret. Green wool construction with a black leather border. Red flash with metal insignia in front.


VIETNAM WAR ERA THEATER MADE HAT - This is a bush hat made from various types of WWII camouflage. High quality construction with multiple thread lines on the visor.
