Vietnam War US Army Early Load Bearing Suspender Set
The Vietnam war was a breeding ground for the development of new combat gear.
The load bearing gear was started during WWII. Its used continued in the Korean
war.
The load bearing gear shown here is one of the early versions used during the war.
The system consists of a field belt with canvis made "H" type suspenders. Two sets
of early (1963) ammo pouches, Model M-1961, are attached to the front section.
This setup was used with the M-14 rifle.
Note that the belt has a series of snaps runing along the center of the body. This
feature is different from the standard type. Three sets of gromets are placed in a
row. The load bearing suspenders attach to the top gromet.
The field belt is made of nylon with brass fittings.

The early war ammo pouches are made of OD canvis. They have a single triangular
flap which are secured closed via the use of a snap. The letters "US" are
stamped with black ink in the front. One of the interesting aspects of this
style are the presence of two gromets in the lower section. This allowed additional
items (such as first aid pouch) to be attached.
The back of the ammo pouch reads:
06
Pocket Ammunition
Magazine
M14 Rifle M1961
DSA-1-1835-63-E
8465-823-6235
