US Army 1st Cavalry Med-Evac - Vietnam War Patch -
Medical evacuation, often termed MEDEVAC or medivac, is the timely and efficient movement and en route care provided by medical personnel to the wounded being evacuated from the battlefield or to injured patients being evacuated from the scene of an accident to receiving medical facilities using medically equipped ground vehicles (ambulances) or aircraft (air ambulances).

In modern American military terminology, medevac is often differentiated from Casualty Evacuation (casevac). In this context, medevac refers to the moving of a patient either from the point of injury, or a casualty collection point, to a medical facility or between the different levels of care with en route medical care whereas casevac has limited or no en route care and medical equipment.

This is a 1st Cavalry patch. As used by the US Army during the Vietnam war. Several versions of this patch were produced.

A black stripe crosses the patch in a diagonal direction. The word "Med Evac" is embroidered above the horse head. A red cross is placed across the black stripe. With a set of pilot's wings embroidered in white on the center of the cross. The words "So that others may live" is embroidered along the bottom of the patch.

The UH-1 helicopters were an essential tool for evacuating the wounded from the battle fields of Vietnam.
