US Army 82nd Airborne Paratrooper Tunic - Vietnam War -
This is a tunic used by the 82nd Airborne Division during the Vietnam war. Of poplin construction. Four pocket pattern with the hidden buttons.  Long sleeves. The patch is of official issue.  The tunic retains the original tags. Dated 1969.

The upper pockets of the uniform were slanted. This design allowed the soldier easier access to the contents of the pockets when wearing the full combat load bearing gear. Flaps were provided to secure the pockets shut. All buttons would remain hidden from view when the tunic was closed. This fact eliminated the chances of the uniform getting snagged by branches when running through the jungle.

The uniform retains the original white cotton tags.  One located near the collar.  The other behind one of the lower pockets. The tags contain information of value for the collector. Data found there includes: Manufacturing date, manufacturer's name, material of construction, color, etc. It was not uncommon for the tags to fall off from normal wear.

The 82nd Airborne was created in March 25th, 1942. Based in Camp Clairborne, Lousiana. Later in the year it moved to Fort Bragg in North Carolina. Airborne troops were employed during the Vietnam war but did not execute any large jumps like those performed during WWII. The terrain and flexibility of the enemy did not make jumps a suitable strategy.
