WWII US Army Paratrooper Jump Jacket - This is a US Army Paratrooper jump jacket. As used by the 101st and 82nd Ariborne units during WWII. This is the jackets that were used during the assault on Normandy (D-Day).

Of cotton construction. Fairly loosely fit. The uniform was issued with a belt of matching material with a metal buckle. The belt is often missing. This particular example still has it.

The patches on this particular example are original and were added after the war. However, the placement is identical to what would have been used for the period.

This is a highly sought after jacket. They are hard to find. Therefore, several reproductions are being manufactured today. Some of them are of very good quality. For example, some were created for use in the movies Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers.

The upper section of the jacket contained a small pouch designed for carrying the standard issue switch blade. This compartment could be closed via zipper.

The uniform has 4 pockets with angled covers. Each can be secured shut via the use of 2 snaps. The same design was employed again during the Vietnam war.

The cuffs were secured closed with two metal snaps.

The name tags consisted of a white cotton strip with the name stamped in black ink. The letters would fade fairly quickly under normal use. The tag was attached either following the curve of the pocket or strainght on top of it (as seen on this example).

This is the emblem of the 101st Airborne. Of cut-edge construction. Many types were created. The differences between them are very minimal such as the color of the tongue, etc.
