WWII US Camillus MK 2 Fighting Knife -
A fighting knife, also commonly called a combat knife, is a knife designed for military use, specifically for close combat. Although since the end of trench warfare, most military knives have been primarily designed for utility
or tool use. Activities such as clearing foliage, chopping branches for cover, opening ammunition crates, etc.
This is a figthing knife used by the United States armed forces during World War Two.

The design of the knife consists of a leather handle with several grooves placed at inrtervals. This
feature improved the grip for the handle. A flat, metal circular piece makes up the pommel. A rectangular
wedge secured the pommel in place.

The scabbard consists of two sections of fiberglass sandwhiched together. A metal fitting is placed
in the throat area. This helps keep the fiberglass together. The following information is stamped
in the metal piece: " NORD-4723, B.M. Co. VP".
The tip of the scabbard has a small circular opening. This allows a leather cord to go through and
act as a leg tie.
The blade is single edge with a flat top. The throat section is marked in both sides. One side reads
"Camillus, N.Y.", the other side reads "U.S.N. Mark 2".
