GERMAN WWII VOLKSSTURM ARMBAND
The Volkssturm was a German national militia of the last months of World War II. It was
founded on Adolf Hitler's orders on October 18, 1944 and conscripted males between the
ages of 16 to 60 years who were not already serving in some military unit as part of a
German Home Guard.
This is the armband design for the Volkssturm
organization. The
armband was worn on the left sleeve of the
uniform shirt.
The design consists of single piece,
cotton construction.
Red body with a large black band in the center. The words DEUTSCHER VOLKSSTURM WEHRMACHT,
which translates to "German People Storm Armed Forces",
are written in block print with white font. An eagle is placed at each side of the
sentence. The eagles have the wings fully spread and are clutching wreaths with
swastikas in the center. The entire design is printed with ink.

The inside of the armband has been stamped with a blue ink eagle and swastika. This
was a common practice in many armbands.
This armband may currently be reproduced.
It is becoming more difficult to be able to tell the fake ones from the real ones because the quality
of the reproductions is improving. The collector must become familiarized with the construction style
and materials employed in the manufacturing of this armband. Attention to the details is critical in
