The various military, police and political organizations under Nazi Germany used a wide variety of belts and buckles. The
number of different designs of the belt buckles was staggering. Each organization made sure that their own item was
different from the rest.

WWII GERMAN HITLER YOUTH BELTS AND BELT BUCKLES
The Hitler Youth, abbreviated HJ, was a paramilitary organization of the Nazi Party. It existed from 1922 to 1945.
The HJ was the second oldest paramilitary Nazi group, founded one year after its adult counterpart, the
Sturmabteilung (the SA). It was made up of the Hitlerjugend proper, for male youth ages 14–18; the younger boys'
section Deutsches Jungvolk for ages 10–14; and the girls' section Bund Deutscher Mädel.

WWII GERMAN LUFTWAFFE BELTS AND BELT BUCKLES
The Luftwaffe is a generic German term for an air force. It is also the official name for two of the four
historic German air forces, the Wehrmacht air arm founded in 1935 and disbanded in 1946. The Luftwaffe played
a very key role during WWII. the force developed its own uniforms, headgear and belt buckles. The following
section is dedicated to the study of German Air Force buckles.

GERMAN SA POLITICAL BELT BUCKLES
The Sturmabteilung (SA), Storm Detachment or Stormtroopers, functioned as a paramilitary organization of the Nazi
Party. It played a key role in Adolf Hitler's rise to power in the 1920s and 1930s. SA men were often called
"brownshirts" for the colour of their uniforms.
The SA was the first Nazi paramilitary group to develop pseudo-military titles for bestowal upon its members. The
SA ranks were adopted by several other Nazi Party groups, chief amongst them the SS, itself originally a branch of
the SA.

GERMAN ARMY BELT BUCKLES
The German Army was one of the four components of the Wehrmacht. The army was composed of a series of ground
troops divided into Divisions. Additional groups included the armored forces composed of tanks, personnel
carriers, reconnaisance vehicles, etc.

THIRD REICH SS BELT BUCKLES
The Schutzstaffel, Protection Squadron, abbreviated SS with stylized "Armanen" Sig runes—was a major paramilitary
organization under Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party. Built upon the Nazi ideology, the SS, under Heinrich Himmler's
command.
The SS troops were among the most feared in the battle front. The following section displays some of the belt
buckles used by the SS.
