WWII GERMAN BUCKLE - SA -
The Sturmabteilung, abbreviated SA, (German for "Assault detachment" or "Assault section", functioned as a
paramilitary organization of the NSDAP – the German Nazi party. They played a key role in Adolf Hitler's rise to
power in the 1930s. Later the organization split. one part remained the SA while the other became the SS.
This is a WWII German belt buckle. As used by the SA during the war. Of brass construction. This
is an earlier design. Most of the coloring remains in place. It was common for the color to
dissipate due to normal use.
The buckle consisted of a flat surface. Two ropes, one inside the other, form a circle. The
SA eagle is placed in the inner most circle. The eagle's wings are fully extended, its head is
facing to the right. It is clutching a wreath with the swastika in the center.
The space formed between the ropes is divided in two. The upper section is adorned with a ribbed
pattern. The bottom section has a wreath. The space around the eagle is flat. It does not
show any pebbling.
