WWII German Stickpin - General Assault -
This is a German WWII stick pin. These items were issued to military, civilian and political individuals for various reasons. In the case of military personnel, a stickpin was given along with a full size award. The soldier could wear the stick pin instead of having to sport the full size badge.

The General Assault badge was designed by the firm of Ernst Peckhaus of Berlin. It was instituted on June 1st 1940. It was originally created to recognize the work performed by combat engineers but was quickly changed to include members of the artillery, anti-tank and anti-aircraft units who served under infantry and armour during an assault.

The design of the stick pin consists of an oval wreath of oakleaves. An Army eagle is placed in the center. The wings are retracted and the head is facing to the right. The talons are clutching a swastika. A K-98 bayonet and a stick grenade are crossed and placedjust below the eagle.

The stick pin is of all metal construction. Qualifications to earn the badge include:

1 The recipient must not be elligeble for the infantry assault badge.
2 To have taken part in a minimum of three infantry or armoured assaults in a period of three different days.
3 To have taken part in a minimum of three indirect infantry or armoured assaults in a period of three different days.
4 To have been wounded while performing direct or indirect infantry or armoured assaults.
5 To have won a decoration while performing an assault.

The back of the stick pin does not have any manufacturing markings.

The pin makes a "U" turn ending in a tab that attaches directly to the main body.

This stick pin was giving to soldiers who were awarded the General Assault badge. The award was instituted on June of 1940. Issued to infantry, artillery and armor units. Soldiers who exhibited bravery during combat operations would receive this award. A document was issued with the badge.
