WWII German Stickpin - War Merit and Hindenburg Crosses Stick Pin -
This is a German WWII stick pin. These items were issued to military, civilian and political individuals for various reasons.
In the case of military personnel, a stickpin was given along with a full size award. The soldier could wear the stick pin
instead of having to sport the full size badge.
 |
As soldiers earned awards they could obtain stick pins per each award. It was
not uncommon for a person to have more than one award displayed on the stick
pin.
The sample featured here shows a total of 6 awards put together. This is the largest
number I have ever seen in one place. The indivisual started serving in the armed
forces during WWI. This explains the long service recognition awards.
Some of the crosses are all
metal construction
while others have a touch of enamel.

The back of the stickpin shows how the awards were held together via the use of a bar.
There are no
manufacturing markings
found. The pin is secured to
a center point in the support bar.
This stickpin may be currently being
reproduced. It is becoming more difficult to
be able to tell the fake ones from the real ones because the quality of the reproductions is improving.
The collector must become familiarized with the construction style and materials employed in the
manufacturing of this badge. Attention to the details is critical in order to be able to determine
the authenticity of the badge.
