WWII GERMAN STICKPIN - STENOGRAPHERS UNION STICK PIN
This is a German WWII stick pin. These items were issued to military, civilian and political individuals for various reasons.
In the case of military personnel, a stickpin was given along with a full size award. The soldier could wear the stick pin
instead of having to sport the full size badge.
The civilian and political stickpins were usually issued as an indication that the person had attended an event, or to
indicate the affiliation to a particular group.
This stick pin was worn by females who were employed as
secrectaries and stenographers. Description as follows-- a small badge, 11.5
mm by 16mm. 6 sided frame housing a white enamel swastika skewered by a
white enamel winged pencil.
This motif was set upon a dark blue field. Basic metal was composed of
silver/ gilt giving all metal highlights a nice gold patina. the pencil,
wings and feather detail therein, the swastika(and inner outline) plus the
outer border were all in gold metal.
Production of badge ceased in 1940 but up to this point no more than 600
women belonged to the union since it was strictly voluntary.
