WWII German Stickpin - WWI Veteran 25 and 50 years -
This is a German WWII stick pin. These items were issued to military, civilian and political individuals for various reasons. In the case of military personnel, a stickpin was given along with a full size award. The soldier could wear the stick pin instead of having to sport the full size badge.

Veteran's associations were established during the Third Reich as a means to provide assistance to soldiers who had served their country in previous wars. Hitler himself was a veteran of WWI.

The stickpins featured here represent recognition for 25 and 50 years of service. The 25 years pin comes in silver while the 50 years is done in gold. The design consists of an oval wreath with a circular shape at the crest. A shield is placed in the center with each corner touching a section of the wreath. A tri-color flag rests at the bottom of the shield. A light house is placed above the flag. The number of years of service is displayed inside the circle.

Note the lack of swastikas, indicating that the design pre-dates WWII.
