WWII GERMAN NSKOV SOCIAL WELFARE MEMBER HAT
The National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei),
abbreviated NSDAP, commonly known in English as the Nazi Party. Was a political party in
Germany between 1919 and 1945. It was known as the German Workers' Party (DAP) before the
name was changed in 1920.
The party's last leader, Adolf Hitler, was appointed Chancellor of Germany by president
Paul von Hindenburg in 1933. Hitler rapidly established a totalitarian regime known as the
Third Reich.
The Nationalsozialistische Kriegsopferversorgung (NSKOV), meaning "National Socialist War
Victim's Care" was a social welfare organization for seriously wounded veterans as well as
frontline fighters of World War I. The NSKOV was established in 1934 and was affiliated to
the NSDAP.
The hat featured here is a German WWII hat. As issued to members of a
NSKOV affiliated
to the Nazi party.
The design of the hat consists of a
dark blue wool
body construction. High peak style. With a har cord and black leather visor.
The mid section is beautifully adorned with a leafy pattern and what could be
corn nuts hanging from the branch.
Two metal, black gromets are placed to each side of the hat to provide ventilation.
A large silver eagle is placed in the front. The eagle has the wings retracted. The
head is facing to the right. An oval shaped wreath is placed in the center. An
iron cross with a swastika is located in the middle of the wreath. A sword travels
through the back of the cross with its point facing up.
The eagle stands atop of big block letters that spell NSKOV.
A large, gold color stamp of the DAF cog wheel is stamped on the inside plastic liner
of the hat.
This page is a recognition and identification guide for WWII German hats. Multiple
detailed photos of a specific sample are provided. Descriptions point out clearly defined points
that should be noted.

The hat cord is attached to the side of the hat via the use of a button which
is lined with a black, cloth material. The design of the cord is of twisted
type. A band of the same material is applied at each end to cap it off and
keep it together.
A close up view of the front device is shown below. In the shape of a button
with a couple of ribbed silver circles ending in a red section. The edges of the
button are black and star patterned.
The back side of the visor has black checkered pattern. Many of the German hats
were outfitted with the checkered design.
The side of the hat has an
RZM paper tag glued to it.
This was placed there at the factory. In many samples the tag is missing due to normal
wear.
The tag is of white background. It reads DEUTSCHEARBEITSFRONT MURZE, which
translates to "German Work Front Murze". This is followed by tha DAF cog wheel logo.
The
RZM logo is also displayed
in a corner. The letters
NSDAP indicate affiliation to the Nazi
party. A serial number is stamped on the tag with black ink. Notice that the color of the
font between the stamp and the tag are different. A star pattern with rounded arms has
also been stamped next to the serial number.
