Which is the replica?

WWII GERMAN BADGE NAVY HIGH SEAS - REPLICA - This is a very goof replica of a German WWII High Seas Badge.

The badge on the left is the real thing. How does one know? Well, attention to detail is always a key. Notice the bridge and cannons of the ship. The windows on the ship's bridge on the left are far more defined than those on the right. As a matter of fact one of the windows was not even stamped.
The cannons also exhibit the same symptoms. Beyond that, the overall definition of the badge is much better on the left example than the right. Unfortunately, you won't always have the benefit of comparing two pieces together. The serious collector must become familiarized with the attributes of the pieces he/she collects.

The fact that replicas are getting particularly good is a disturbing factor. The fake piece displayed here was actually sold as a real piece to a dealer. Fortunately this person is honest and does not attempt to sell it to someone else as a real item.
