WWII GERMAN POLICE HELMET ANATOMY AND CONSTRUCTION


The helmets of Germany came in a variety of designs. The following is an analysis of one of those helmets. Detailed photographs and terminology are given to provide the enthusiast and collector with a better understanding of this fascinating aspect of militaria.

A couple of unique features for the police helmet included the use of a leahter crown pad and the multi-hole ventilation ports. Two sets per side.

The rim on this helmet was the rolled type.



The liner of this helmet was more intricate than other examples. Of leather construction. The front section has multiple vent holes. The crown has a leather pad designed to increase comfort.





Some of the helmets were marked in multiple places. The helmet featured here is one of them. Some of the markings were official while others were done by the soldier.



The size of the helmet has been ink-stamped on the liner itself.

The soldier wrote his last name on the side of the liner. This was a fairly common occurrance.

The date and manufacturer logo has been stamped on the side of the helmet.
