WWII US Army 1944 Half Shelter Tent -
This is a US Army field gear item. As issued during World War two. The design of the shelter half
is very simple and remained in use passed the Vietnam war. Each soldier was issued one and
could be combined with another soldier to create a full tent. Construction was of heavy duty
canvis.

Black flat buttons were riveted along the side of the body. The counter side has a series of
button slits. The design allowed a second sheler half to simply be buttoned up to a mate. Also
included are loops and gromets on each corner. Small rope loops were also sewn into the body.
The sample featured here is black ink stamped with the manufacturer's name and the date of 1944.
Most of the shelter halves are dated along the corner in a similar fashion. However, it is possible
to find undated samples.
