WWII US Army Air Force Pilot Survival Type C1 Vest -
This is a US Army field gear item. As issued during World War two. These were the vests that were issued to pilots
in the event they were shut down. The vest comes equipped with a variety of survival equipment.

A leather holster was sewn to one side of the vest. It came equipped with a leather strap to
secure the gun in place. This was often removed by civilians who employed the vest after the war
for fishing activities. The back has three straps that can be loosened and retied to accomodate
different size people. This was the one size fits all approach.
The vest was distributed with a small instructions booklet. This provided information about the
items found in the vest and how they were to be employed under survival conditions. A glare eye
shield is shown in this photograph. It was very helpful in protecting the eyes from extreme
exposure to the sun.

The survival mirror comes in a cardboard box. it is of plastic construction. Black color with reddish letters.
Instructions are printed on one side explaining how to use the mirror.
The C-1 Vest came with a series of pockets to hold the various items. Each pocket had a black ink
stamp describing its contents. It is difficult to find some of the items that were issued with
the vest.
The Army Air Forces logo is stenciled on the chest area. The words Army Air Forces are written just
below the logo in white font.
The tag of the C1 vest is sewn to the inside area. It has a black background with gold letters.

It is becoming more difficult to be able to tell the fake ones from the real ones because
