WWI AMERICAN OCCUPATION FORCES - DINNER EVENT
Life goes on during the occupation of Germany. This grouping shows the invitation and menu for a dinner held for military personnel of the occupation forces. Items like these are always interesting for collector's because
they provide a wealth of information. With items like these it is possible to associate a person to a
particular location and time.
The invitation reads as follows:
The officers
of the
3rd batallion, 50th infantry
request the pleasure of your presence
at a dance
to be given at Niedermendig
on Saturday, may, Eigth
nineteen hundread twenty
at 8:30 o'clock

The following picture shows the cover of the dinner invitation. Of cardboard construction with
ribbon material used for the binding. A photo of the skyline of the town adorns the cover. The
1st Army symbol is also displayed on the invitation. The Company "L" identifier is provided.
Notice that Mr. Haddock's name is listed as a Liutenant. This dinner took place before he was promoted.
It is also interesting to notice the "buglers" category. Bugles were still used during WWI as a means
to communicate with the troops. This military strategy goes back to the days of Alexander the great.
Printed information like the one illustrated here proves invaluable when conducting research work
because it identifies the names of the people belonging to the organization and puts them in a
specific time and place.
The roster of the Company identifies the names and ranks of the soldiers invited to the event.
