WWII US SELECTIVE SERVICE MEDAL -
The Selective Service Medal is awarded for exceptionally meritorious service or for significant achievements or inspiration to others
which contributed to the goals of the Selective Service System i.e, The Draft. Civilian and military personnel were both eligible for
this award. It was issued for service in WWII.
The example shown here comes with an early box. The ribbon and lapel pin are included. The inside of the box is lined with blue
velvet material. The medal is of stitch-back construction.
The box is made of cardboard. The inside has a dark Blue cloth background. Brackets are put in place to secure
the ribbon and lapel pin. The top of the lid has the name "Selective Service Medal" written in gold letters. A double
border is also inked in gold.
The ribbon is of Yellow background with a thick Blue vertical stripe. A thin Blue stripe is found to each side.
The back of the legion of merit medal reads the following: Awarded in the name of the congress of the United States
for faithful and loyal service.
