German soldiers wore the badges in their combat uniforms when they went into battle. In the process of
runing around the badges were damaged. The most common problem was the breakage of the hinge or the catch.
In these cases field repairs are performed.

The name of the manufacturer or its logo was often stamped to the back of the badge. The one stamped
on this example reads "Dresden". However, it is important to know that not all of the badges were
marked.
