WWII GERMAN BADGE - SILVER EASTERN PEOPLE BRAVERY BADGE-
The item featured here is the eastern People Bravery badge in silver. The design of the badge consisted
of a multi-point sunburst pattern circle with a rotatign flower in the center.
The Eastern People bravery award came in two basic types:
1) With swords for bravery.
2) Without swords for merit.
The award also came in two classes:
- 1st class (with pinback construction). The 1st class came in two grades - gold and silver
- 2nd class
(mounted on a ribbon). The 2nd class in three grades - gold, silver and bronze.
There were a total of ten possible versions of this award. Unlike German awards such as the Iron
Cross, repeat awards of the same grade were possible. The center of the back is concave and has
a thick vertical pin. There are no markings on this example.
The original award was only given to "Eastern Peoples",
but the criteria were changed to allow awards of the silver grades
(1st and 2nd Class) with Swords to German cadre personnel. It is interesting to note that this
is the only major German award of World War Two that did not incorporate the swastika in its design.
