WWII AMERICAN SUMMER FLIGHT HELMET ANATOMY AND CONSTRUCTION


The United States produced a few variations of flight helmets during WWII. the one featured here is the summer type. Of cotton construction.

The following is an analysis of one of those helmets. Detailed photographs and terminology are given to provide the enthusiast and collector with a better understanding of this fascinating aspect of militaria.

The inside of the earpieces are lined with a chamois material. An opening in the center permits the headphones to be attached.

most of the flight summer helmets have a tag sewn to the inside. It is of black background with gold letters.
