WWII US Army M-1943 Field Jacket - When the United States entered World War Two much of the military was unprepared for combat. The unforms and equipment employed was very antiquated, most of it dated back to World War one. The US Military dress uniform was no exception.

The field jacket shown here is an example of the type used during WWII.

The jacket featured here is known as the M-1943 model. Of cotton construction. OD color. Four pocket construction. Large plastic Brown buttons secure the epilets on the shoulder.

This jacket was the inspiration for the design of the modern field jacket.

A tag with general information is found inside the jacket. It is white in color with black letters.

The tag reads as follows:

JACKET, FIELD, M-1943
This jacket increases greatly the warmth of clothing
worn under it in cold and temperate climates
because it is windproof.
FITTING: Fit over pile jacket
USE: Sweat will chill you therefore, when you
start to get hot, open collar and loosen cuffs and
waist. If that is not enough, remove clothing
worn underneath.
WAIST DRAW STRING. Pull draw string up and
loop each end to keep proper adjustment. In
warm weather or when overheated, tie drawstring
across body and open the unbottoned jacket.

A second tag containing the size of the jacket is found inside one of the pockets.
