WWII US Army Air Corps Summer Uniform -
The officer's summer dress uniform of the Army Air Force was not a mandatory item for officers to wear
or acquire. Because of that reason, many of the uniforms were privatelly purchased by individuals from
manufacturer's authorized by the armed forces to produce such cloth items. The example portrayed on this
page is a fine example of a privatelly obtained uniform.
The uniform was manufactured of cotton, 8.2 ounce rayon, twill weave, mohair filling, tropical worsted,
cotton warp or gabardine. The color of the uniform was solid Khaki.
The back of the uniform is plain, no belt is worn on the jacket. An Army Air Force patch is located on the
upper section of the sleeve. The patch is manufactured of wool.
The buttons were golden in color and portrayed the Army eagle on its center. The button
was sewn to the tunic and secured from the back by using a small green plastic
button.
Three different tags are found on this example. Two of them are displayed on this page. the
tags are found on the inside pocket. One of them displays the name of the manufacturing company
(Clipper graff). while the other one contains the size of the uniform (37). The tunic is in near
mint condition with only one small moth nip found on the lapel.
