WWII German Stickpin - War Merit and Hindenburg Crosses Stick Pin -
This is a German WWII stick pin. These items were issued to military, civilian and political individuals for various reasons. In the case of military personnel, a stickpin was given along with a full size award. The soldier could wear the stick pin instead of having to sport the full size badge.

As soldiers earned awards they could obtain stick pins per each award. It was not uncommon for a person to have more than one award displayed on the stick pin.

The sample featured here shows a total of 6 awards put together. This is the largest number I have ever seen in one place. The indivisual started serving in the armed forces during WWI. This explains the long service recognition awards.

Some of the crosses are all metal construction while others have a touch of enamel.

This page is a recognition and identification guide for WWII German Stick Pins. Multiple detailed photos of a specific sample are provided. Descriptions point out clearly defined points that should be noted.

Collecting Third Reich Stickpins
Collecting Third Reich memorabilia is a field that has been growing since the days the GI's rummaged around Europe bringing back military souvenirs. German soldiers wore many of their awards on their uniforms when they went to battle. Once the soldier was killed or captured, the American soldiers would take the awards as war trophies. Eventually all these pieces came back to the United States where military history enthusiasts began to collect them.
